How does mandatory renewal work?

When you renew your license with the Florida Department of Health, they will instantly verify your records in CE Broker to ensure that all of your requirements have been met. If your continuing education records are up-to-date in CE Broker then you will be able to proceed through renewal with no interruptions. If credits still need to be reported when you go to renew, you will be redirected to your CE Broker account to report those. Once you’re finished you will be returned to finish your renewal. It is a seamless process, making your renewal quick and painless!

How the CE renewal process works.

Day in the Life of Our WOW Support Center

Our WOW Support Center
Our WOW Support Center

The Support Center team at CE Broker sees Customer Service as more than just answering phone calls and emails from our customers. It’s about solving problems and going above and beyond for whomever we are helping at that moment. When I am talking on the phone with a customer, my goal is that I want to hear you say “Wow!” Whether it is “Wow, that was easier than I thought!” Or, “Wow! You made my day!” our Support Center team strives to hear that “WOW.”

When the day starts in Support Center we need to be ready to rock. Answering calls from licensees and educational providers is a huge part of our day. It can be a challenging task because we want the hold time for calls to be as minimal as possible – but we also want to give each call the time and attention it deserves. Learning to use a system you are not familiar with can be intimidating, so if I get a call from someone reporting a course for the first time I want to see you through until you get the hang of it and feel confident continuing on your own! Whatever you call us about you can rest assured you will get a smiling, helpful voice greeting you.

Often a call will bring up a question that takes some extra research. Any information we provide we want to make sure it is accurate and thorough. If a question or concern requires input from another department or party you can be sure the Support Center Representative assisting you will do the necessary research and call or email you back with a resolution in a timely manor. If I am the first person you speak to regarding a concern I want to personally see you through until a resolution is reached – not pass you off to another party. Maria, our Support Center Manager, is excellent at making sure everyone is on the same page when resolving an issue.

Our Support Center office is open 8am – 5pm Eastern Time so a popular method of communication is via email. You can be sure your email will be responded to quickly but if it is a complicated issue and you provide your phone number we are more than happy to place a call to you directly. Hannah is a team member that responds to emails incredibly efficiently and thoroughly – when she responds to your email she not only answers your question but she knows what you would ask next and answers that too!

Ever noticed the “Chat Now” tab in the bottom right corner of your CE Broker page? That’s us too! It’s another convenient way to reach a Support Center Representative when you are not available to call. We take turns in the Support Center where one person will accept chats all day instead of answering the phone. Let me tell you, a day in chat feels like running a marathon. Team members Ashley and Patricia are gold medalists! They are over here typing at the speed of light to get your questions answered as efficiently as possible.

That’s right – our Support Center team is right here in sunny Jacksonville, Florida taking chats, emails AND phone calls. As CE Broker grows, so does our Support Center. Our small but mighty team of 14 (no not 20 or 30, just 14 amazing people!) don’t get to interact with customers face-to-face but we love talking to each and every one and love when we hear that “WOW.” That’s how we know we are delivering on our promise of amazing customer service.

Science and math prove that CE Broker Transcripts are the greatest advancement in continuing education of all time.

What is a CE (Broker) Transcript?

Likely, you have seen a transcript before.  You probably requested that your high school send your transcript to a prospective college.  It detailed your academic history, completed courses and grades.  It looked backwards and displayed your achievements.  A CE Broker transcript, however, does much more.  While documenting your successful completion of CE hours, our transcripts detail your renewal requirements, are specific to each individual, and “know” how to factor the CE hours that you earn into your overall requirements.

Renewal Requirements

The legislature passes laws.  The Boards add rules.  Insert fine print.  Insert fine print.  The staff at CE Broker wades through the quagmire of years of compounding regulations.  We hack.  We slash.  We probe and inquire.  Our CE experts deduce the original intent of the continuing education rules and determine the exact renewal requirements of every healthcare professional in Florida.

What determines your CE renewal requirements?  Profession.  License type.  License status.  Specialties.  Cycle number.  Licensed by exam.  Licensed by endorsement.  So on.  And yes, it gets more complicated.

Here is one example of the rules as described by the DOH:

Remember, these are the generic rules that would apply to you if there were no exceptions, conditions, or abnormalities dealing with the acquisition and maintenance of your license.  Compare this to a CE Broker transcript:

A subscription to CE Broker gives you ongoing access to these transcripts, and that is where the real value becomes evident.  These transcripts are not static, they are dynamic.  As providers of CE courses report hours into CE Broker, we automatically update your transcripts and reconfigure your overall requirements.  Here is a snapshot of a transcript with three courses reported:

Think of a GPS navigation system.  If you opt for a different route than the one selected, you can reconfigure the directions based upon your current location and you will find new directions.  CE Broker transcripts are updated every time new course completions are reported and give guidance as you proceed.

Our transcripts are smart.  We program all of the details of the DOH’s rules into our records.  Sometimes you may earn only a limited number of hours in a particular category, other times they can roll over.

There is also a summary of your renewal requirements and reported hours on the top of your transcript for quick reference.  Check the summary.  See from where that 1 missing hour comes.  Take a quick course.  Avoid the audit.

Once you have completed all of your renewal requirements, all that ugly scary red will transform into a cool, reassuring green.  “Complete” displays at the top of your transcript and you will never be audited.  This is an example of what all healthcare professionals should aspire to see before his or her license expires:

Be diligent in your professional development and take advantage of the option to have ongoing access to official CE transcripts.  This is a luxury allotted only to healthcare professionals in FL and nurses in D.C.  Visit CEBroker.com for more information

CE or Continuing Education?

I will use the acronym “CE” only once in this article.  That original expression which we so frequently abbreviate, “continuing education,” has become a trite phrase devoid of its original intent.  No matter how repetitive it sounds, I will spell out “continuing education” every time.  Acronyms can undermine and obfuscate.  They make us lose sight of the underlying meaning of those words, words which convey a powerful, productive message:

We must be lifelong learners.  The professionals who heal, help, and master technical skills must continue to develop and hone their abilities.  Whether it’s a business, city, civilization, or a plant if it does not continue to grow and develop, it will slowly decay and be replaced.  Unless your mind, critical faculties, and your capacity for knowledge grow, you will be surpassed by your peers and eventually become irrelevant.  This is a key idea behind “continuing education.”

What are your priorities when choosing your continuing education courses?  Is your goal to satisfy your requirements as quickly and easily as possible?  Are you simply looking to breeze through 24 hours worth of material in one short sitting and then immediately forget the material upon completion?  Take the time to find valuable continuing education opportunities.  Be passionate.  Find a stimulating subject.  Relate the material in front of you to your career and find ways to implement.

So use the acronym but do not forget what it means.  Continue to educate yourself for your own sake.  Visit CEBroker.com to find continuing education courses in the areas that interest you.
