CE Broker Introduces CE Expert, Michelle Booth

The CE Expert position provides ongoing support to new and existing clients of CE Broker. A CE Expert identifies the needs of our customers, teaches our customers how to navigate and utilize their CE Broker account, and recommends solutions when problems may arise. 

Michelle’s previous years of customer service experience and time spent working for the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing makes her an excellent addition to our team of CE Experts. Her great attention to detail and ability to explain technical concepts to licensees allows her to assist our customers with great efficiency and accuracy. 

We recently met with Michelle to discuss her background, her goals, and her outlook on forging solutions to everyday challenges.


Q | Tell us about yourself. What’s your professional background like, and what brought you to CE Broker?

A | I’ve held customer service and support roles for the last 9 years in various companies and organizations. I truly enjoy assisting people and helping them find solutions. Before joining CE Broker, I worked for the state of Utah in the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing as a licensing specialist. In that role, I assisted customers and processed license applications. 

I was drawn to CE Broker because it was part of a world I was very familiar with (professional licenses and meeting state requirements) and I love that it provides an easy and efficient way for licensees to track their CE compliance.


Q | What unique perspective and skills did you gain while you were with Utah’s Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing?

A | Working for the state of Utah in the licensing office taught me so many valuable things! It gave me greater awareness of how a state licensing office operates and of the different processes that are in place to determine state rules and statutes that regulate licensees and the license requirements. 

When I first started with CE Broker, and a licensee had a question about a CE course and how it is approved, I already had a solid understanding of the difference between board approved and rule/statute approved CE courses. So I was able to explain that difference to the licensee so they could better understand what would be acceptable as CE and how they could accurately report that CE to their CE Broker account.


Q | What do you hope to accomplish in your role as CE Expert?

A | I hope to effectively guide licensees so they can fully understand how to utilize all the features of their CE Broker account. It’s such an excellent tool that truly simplifies CE compliance.


Q | Which of CE Broker’s core values resonates with you the most, and why?

A | As a CE Expert, it would have to be WOW Customer Service. It’s wonderful to be part of a company that genuinely strives to support our customers in the best way possible.

A | I’m a problem solver that loves helping people find solutions.

CE Broker Introduces Sr. Product Owner, Jared Daniels

We’ve always believed that the best way to serve our client partners is to fill strategic roles with the best talent possible. That’s why we’re proud to introduce one of CE Broker’s newest roles, Sr. Product Owner, and the talented professional filling it, Jared Daniels.

The Sr. Product Owner position is one of maximizing value. The Product Owner defines “the what” – as in what the product will look like and what features it should contain based on anticipated client needs, organizational goals, vision, feedback from the development team and other stakeholders. The product owner is the biggest advocate for communicating and clarifying the group’s shared goals, direction, and process. 

Jared Daniels, CE Broker’s Sr. Product Owner, joined in the late fall of 2020. Jared has an extensive background in agile product management and customer advocacy. Jared’s experience implementing Scaled Agile frameworks for product and engineering teams, passion for people, and solutions-oriented mindset made him the perfect fit.  

We recently met with Jared to discuss his background, his goals for this new role, and his outlook on forging solutions to everyday challenges.


Q | Tell us about yourself. What’s your professional background like, and what brought you to CE Broker? 

A | Right out of college I became a project manager for a national new housing construction company. I was responsible for all exterior construction for 11 housing developments. With hundreds of dependencies each week, hard deadlines, and high expectations from site managers, crews and home buyers I quickly learned the importance of systematically tackling the problems at hand and the need for open communication and transparency. 

I noticed the parallels between construction and software development and made the transition to tech 4 years ago. I’ve had the opportunity to help entire organizations implement agile frameworks, refined product and development processes and launched really cool applications that served our users well.

I am passionate about enabling people to grow, learn, and live a more passion filled life. Through the solutions we provide, I truly believe we lighten the burden of CE for licensed professionals, so that they have more time to pursue what brings them to life. 


Q | What are some of your biggest accomplishments in your prior roles? 

A | Creating an environment for growth, open communication, customer collaboration and a sense of ownership for those building the software is what I strive to bring to any organization. In the past I’ve helped implement frameworks that did all of the above and it changed everything. The culture of how work was done, problems solved, communication and delivery of world class software completely changed.


Q | What do you hope to accomplish in your role as Sr. Product Owner?

A | As the product owner I have the unique opportunity of working with all stakeholders; being at the nucleus of a product as feedback, requests, goals and opportunities all pass through. I hope to create further collaboration, visibility, open communication and delightful experiences that solve our customer’s needs as we continue to expand CE Brokers solutions for educational providers, regulatory boards, and licensed professionals.

Q | Which of CE Broker’s core values resonates with you the most, and why? 

A | I pursued a career here because all of CE Broker’s core values align with my personal core values. The two that resonate most with me at the moment are, “Think Green” & “Pursue growth and learning”

I love learning and applying what I learn to what I do brings me to life. Many organizations say they want their employees to learn and grow but few give their employees the means, time and ability to apply what they learn to how the organization runs. With learning comes new knowledge and with knowledge comes change and growth. As a company, CE Broker is committed to all of the above, always striving to be better. 

One way I’ve seen this play out is through our commitment to “Thinking Green”. With knowledge of the current state of the environment the organization has committed to being carbon neutral and recently doubled down by joining 1% For The Planet, meaning we are committed to donating 1% of our annual sales to nonprofit organizations whose work protects our planet for future generations to come.

CE Broker Business Continuity During COVID-19

As the COVID-19 pandemic and the situation here in the United States continues to evolve, we are taking measures to ensure the health and safety of our staff while continuing to support the needs of those we serve.

Because our partners are on the front line of this pandemic, it is our goal and responsibility to maintain the high level of service we deliver to your team and organization.

A remote workforce: For nearly a decade, CE Broker has embraced remote work as an important characteristic of its ‘live balanced’ core value. We have enacted a remote work policy for our Jacksonville and Boulder offices. Because of our history of remote work, our teams are prepared to continue with their duties and respond to any new local, state, or federal guidelines.

Role redundancies and geographically diverse staff: For some time, CE Broker has instituted a staffing strategy that includes redundancies in all positions, including geographic redundancy.

This paves the way for operations to continue at normal service levels in the event a staff member is unable to perform their functions.

Our Partner Success, Implementation, Sales and Marketing, Quality Assurance, Support and Management/Leadership duties are all carried out by redundant teams, giving you peace of mind that we’re here to support you during this unprecedented time.

Furthermore, tools are in place to ensure transparency and visibility into the work of our staff. In the event a staff member designated to your organization is unable to work, our team has the ability to review a robust and comprehensive account of historical transactions/communications, meeting notes, account details, and more.

Highly available data hosting: CE Broker’s systems are hosted redundantly throughout locations geographically dispersed across the US. Our teams have access to our software securely from anywhere.

Employee health and safety: As the situation continued to progress over the past few weeks, CE Broker made our staff’s health and wellness its top priority, instituting mandatory remote work for individuals who have traveled to high risk areas, in alignment with recommendations from the CDC, enhancing sanitation protocols in our offices, canceling all non-essential work travel, and more.

Our top priority will always be the safety of our employees, and regardless of our transition to a fully-remote workforce, we will continue to support our team and stay focused on the health and safety of the communities we are honored to serve.

Using the freemium model to improve CE tracking

CEB-Blog-Freemium-MAt CE Broker, we work with state licensing boards and healthcare professionals to track continuing education. Because we work with government agencies, we have to operate differently than other software as a service (SaaS) companies. This is where our freemium business model comes in.

A freemium business model is defined as a company that offers both free and paid account options. The practice of this business model can vary, but at CE Broker, we use this model to provide a free account to any licensee who needs one.

In fact, our goal for growth is to get as many free users tracking their CE with us as possible. As CEO of Evernote said, “The easiest way to get 1 million people paying, is to get 1 billion people using.”

In order to make the freemium model work for CE Broker and its users, there are three priorities we continually focus on:

A comprehensive free service.

The freemium model allows us to be absolutely cost-free to boards and licensees.  We continually improve our product and maintain the expectation that most will use it for free.

Support that defines the experience.

We believe that great customer service makes or breaks a SaaS company.  In a complex industry like licensure, offering help is critical. The small percentage who choose to subscribe to our upgraded services allow us to provide phone, chat, and email support to all of our users.
