What If This Is My First Renewal?

There are a few things to keep in mind if you are renewing your license for the first time.

If you are initially licensed by examination during the current biennium, you are exempt from the general CEU requirements for the first renewal. You must complete 2 hours of medical errors, 2 hours of laws and rules and 1 hour of HIV/AIDS (all must be taken from a Florida Board of Nursing approved provider).

If you are initially licensed by endorsement during the current biennium and took the exam in another state within the biennium, you are exempt from general CEU hours.  You must complete 2 hours of medical errors, 2 hours laws and rules and 1 hour of HIV/AIDS (all must be taken from a Florida Board of Nursing approved provider).

If you do not qualify for the exemption in your first renewal, you must complete 1 hour per month (not literally just used for calculation purposes) remaining in the biennium from the date the license was issued. These hours must include 2 hours of medical errors, 2 hours laws and rules and 1 hour of HIV/AIDS (all must be taken from a Florida Board of Nursing approved provider)

That completion will show up in your Course History and you will be notified as soon as it is recorded if you have a Professional or Concierge account.

Sometimes though you’ll have to report your hours yourself though, and it’s easier than ever with the iPhone app.

It takes just a few steps:

1. Open your iPhone App and click on the “Report CE” button at the bottom of your screen and follow the instructions as prompted.

Choose Report CE Tab at the bottom of the page.

The CE Broker iPhone App Tutorial

CE Broker published a free iPhone app in August, 2010 for all healthcare professionals in Florida.  Here we will explain some of the app’s features so you can benefit from everything that it has to offer.  You can download the app for free at the Apple app store or at iTunes, and it is also available for the iPad and iPod Touch.

When you open the app, it will prompt you to enter your license number and you’ll be asked to confirm your identity.

Once logged in, the app will display your current CE compliance status.  If you see, “Complete,” then you have already fulfilled your continuing education requirements for the current license cycle.  This is a useful feature that you should check frequently as your license expiration date approaches.

If your compliance status reads, “Not Complete,” then you will benefit from the rest of the app’s features.  Click “Transcript” and the app will prompt you to enter your license number as well as your unique password.  You must have a subscription to CE Broker in order to access your transcript.  To learn more about the benefits of a subscription and to sign up, click here.

Once an account is setup, you can login and view your personal continuing education transcript.  Here the screen displays your expiration date and your profession-specific requirements.  Your transcript should reflect any courses that you have already completed.  If you believe that credits for course completions are missing from your transcript, there are a couple of possible explanations.  Click this link for more information:  “Why are my CE credits not posting to CE Broker?”

To find courses that fulfill your requirements, the CE Broker app includes a Course Search, featuring over 5,000 approved educational providers.  Click “Search” at the bottom of the app and select the subject area that you still need to fulfill your CE requirements.

When browsing the results of your search, you can click on the course for more information.  Here you will find the phone number and website of the provider offering that course.  You can also choose to email the course information to yourself so you can review the course later.  CE Broker does not require that you have a subscription to use the official course search; it is available to all.

If you wish to view courses that you have completed in the past click “History” at the bottom of the app.  Perhaps you enjoyed a course by a particular provider but don’t remember the provider’s name.  This is when you would view your course history.

Again, the course search is free to all healthcare professionals but subscriptions are required to view your official transcripts and your course history.  It costs $35 per license cycle to subscribe, but CE Broker also offers a one-time 7-day free trial.  Click here for more information.

Does CE Broker Offer Continued Education Courses?

CE Broker powers the official course search for the Florida Department of Health (DOH).  There are over 4,000 approved educational providers, offering over 300,000 courses.  It can be overwhelming for a licensee who is searching for a course through a traditional search engine.  Is this provider approved?  Will this course automatically be submitted to CE Broker or do I have to report it myself?  CE Broker organizes and categorizes this information in its course search.  Every course listed on the CE Broker website is offered by an approved educational provider, and every approved provider automatically submits course completions into the CE Broker system.  If you found the course on the CE Broker course search, you do not need to report the course completion.

To search for a course, go to the CE Broker course search, select your profession, desired subject area, and find that course that is right for you.

You are not able to sign up for a course at the CE Broker website.  The link attached to the course listing will take you to the educational provider’s website and you can register there.  Remember, by using the CE Broker course search you can be certain that the course you sign up for is being offered by an approved provider which will automatically submit completions to CE Broker.  The course search is also now available on the CE Broker iPhone App which can be downloaded from the app store or from iTunes.

CE Broker Publishes an iPhone App

We all work to find a balance between our personal and professional lives.  Fulfilling continuing education requirements is probably the last thing on your mind when you get home from a long day of work.  CE Broker, the continuing education system for the Florida Department of Health, is trying to make it easier for healthcare professionals to stay on top of continuing education requirements.

CE Broker’s continuing education management system has been simplified into a handheld version and is now available on the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.  Users may view official transcripts, search for courses, and view course history while on the go.  A few minutes here and there can be a great source of productivity as healthcare professionals plot their course to continuing education compliance.

Small Business Provides Support for Florida’s Healthcare Professionals

CE Broker Releases Free iPhone App

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (April 14th, 2011) – The healthcare industry is easily one of the most regulated in the state, and often regulations fall upon the shoulders of Florida’s healthcare professionals in the form of new and sometimes confusing continuing education requirements.  One company, CE Broker, has been creating software that can support Florida’s hardworking healthcare professionals and offers many of its services for free.

Although available for download since August 2010, CE Broker has just recently released the official Version 1.0 of their new iPhone app, allowing healthcare professionals licensed by the Florida Department of Health to manage their continuing education requirements on the smart phone.  The CE Broker iPhone app is available for free download at Apple’s iTunes Store.

Licensed healthcare professionals in Florida can use the new iPhone app to check their continuing education compliance status.  “We’ve taken our proven CE management system,” says Brian Solano, Chief Operating Officer at CE Broker, “and simplified it into a handheld version that is easy for healthcare professionals to use.”

The official course search for the Florida Department of Health is also available on the application.  Users can search for approved courses offered by over 4,000 educational providers.  By simply selecting their profession and desired subject area, licensed professionals have access to over 300,000 approved courses right on their smartphone.   “Amidst all the stresses of being a licensed healthcare professional, continuing education should not be one of them,” says Solano.  “CE Broker and its iPhone application will help licensees save time and avoid needless stress.”

CE Broker subscribers may login with their phone and view their official continuing education transcript and course history.  “Smartphones already play an integral role in the lives of many healthcare professionals,” says Solano, “and CE Broker wants to support them with new innovative technologies.”  The app also allows users to conveniently view which courses are still outstanding and search for courses that meet those requirements.  The company hopes that healthcare professionals licensed in Florida will see the benefit of remote access to official transcripts and stay on top of their continuing education requirements.

CE Broker is the official continuing education tracking system for the Florida Department of Health, bringing healthcare boards, educational providers, and licensees’ data together into one system.
