This is the first year that mandatory license renewal is in effect for you. What does that mean, you might ask yourself? Mandatory license renewal just means that you have to show proof of compliance with the Florida Department of Health at the time of renewal. If you are not 100% compliant, you will not be able to renew your license and will be redirected to CE Broker to report any missing hours. You don’t want any surprises when you renew your license, so continue reading to learn more about your CE requirements!

As a Florida Speech-Pathologist and Audiologist, you are required to complete 30 hours each biennium. Every biennium you must complete 18 hours of General Hours that are clinically related, 10 hours of General Hours that do not have to be clinically related and 2 hours of Medical Errors. If you are a Florida Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologist Assistant, you must complete 18 hours of General Hours that are clinically related and 2 hours of Medical Errors.

Below is a chart of your CE requirements if you are a Florida Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologist (first time license renewals may differ):

And here are the CE requirements for all Florida Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologists Assistants (first time license renewals may differ):

What if this is my first renewal?

FL Speech Pathologists and Audiologists:

If you were initially licensed 6 months or less before the end of the biennium, you are exempt from CE requirements.

If you were initially licensed more than 6 months but less than 12 months from the end of the biennium, you must complete 20 hours—2 hours of Medical Errors and 18 Clinically-Related hours.

If you were initially licensed in the first year of the biennium, you are subject to complete the normal amount of CE requirements that are listed in the chart above.

Speech Pathology Assistants and Audiology Assistants:

If you were initially licensed 6 months or less before the end of the biennium, you are exempt from CE requirements.

If you were initially licensed more than 6 months before the end of the biennium, you must complete all 20 hours that are listed in the normal CE requirements chart above.
