How Do The Domestic Violence Requirements Work?
Medical Doctors are required to complete 40 CME hours each biennium. 38 hours can be General CME Hours and 2 hours are required to be in Medical Errors which equals a total of 40 hours. Whenever you are in your biennium in which Domestic Violence CME is required, it is considered as part of the total 40 hours.
The same goes for Physician Assistants. You have a total of 100 CME hours to complete each biennium and when you are in the biennium in which Domestic Violence is required, that is counted in the total 100 hours.
If you have a Professional or Concierge Account with CE Broker, you can see whether you are in your required Domestic Violence license cycle on your CE Compliance Transcript. If it is required, you will see the Domestic Violence section listed. If you have completed those hours, you will see that is fulfilled. If you have not completed those hours yet, you will see that two hours are still required in that section. If not required this license cycle and you complete 2 hours of Domestic Violence, this will become your selected license cycle for the Domestic Violence requirement.
What If This Is My First Renewal?
If you are a Medical Doctor and are renewing your license for the first time, you are exempt from the general CME requirement and are only required to complete 2 hours of Preventing Medical Errors and 1 hour of HIV/AIDS. You can find these approved courses in our Course Search Tool.
If you are a Physician Assistant and you are renewing your license for the very first time, you are required to complete two hours in Medical Errors, One hour of HIV/AIDS and 97 hours of general CME. A current NCCPA certification can substitute for the 97 general CME courses. The HIV/AIDS course must be Category I.
Is Medical Errors Required Every Biennium?
For Doctors, Medical Errors is required every biennium and MUST include information regarding the 5 most mis-diagnosed conditions, in accordance with Rule 64B8-13.005, F.A.C. A Professional or Concierge Account will give you access to your CE Compliance Transcript which will show your compliance status of Medical Errors and other courses and how they count towards your license requirements. These 5 mis-diagnosed conditions are: cancer related issues, neurological related issues, cardiac related issues, timely responding to complications during surgery and post-operatively, and urological related issues. These approved Medical Errors courses can also be found in our Course Search Tool.
For Physician Assistants, The Prevention of Medical Errors course must be approved by any state or federal government agency, or nationally affiliated professional association, or any provider of Category I or II American Medical Association Continuing Education. One hour of a two hour course which is provided by a facility licensed under Chapter 395, Florida Statutes, for its employees may be used to partially meet this requirement.
